Twenty-one anglers braved the season’s first frost, eager for the last match of the year in the Tees Valley Angling league. Though the morning started with a chill, the sun eventually broke through, offering a welcome warmth. Conditions, however, proved challenging, and bites were scarce for most competitors.
Stu Sexton showed his skill, securing 1st place with a fantastic haul of 76lb 15oz from the aptly named “naughty corner” in peg 16, fishing off the bottom with maggots. Ian Hutchinson followed in 2nd place with 62lb 1oz on peg 12, while Col Dickenson rounded out the top three, bringing in 54lb 9oz from peg 3.
This final match also decided the league standings. Coming into the day, Gaz Wood and Jonny Richards were neck and neck for 2nd and 3rd positions in the league. Gaz managed to edge ahead by winning his section, clinching 2nd place in the league. Jonny, finishing 2nd in his section, took 3rd overall. Jack Jones, with a strong season behind him, had already secured 1st place in the league prior to this match.
Today’s section winners were Daz Shanks, Jordan Hunt, Gaz Wood, and Shaun Slator.
Well done to all anglers for a hard-fought season. Here’s to more great matches next year!
