Match 7 2025 – Forest Lane – The Don

After a week of blistering 30°C heat that had us all sweating more than a kilo of casters in a hot van, match day finally brought a change in the weather – overcast skies, gusty winds, and the occasional shower. Classic British summer fashion: sunglasses one day, waterproofs the next!

The venue, The Don Lake at Forest Lane, looked promising early on, with fish cruising and bubbling across the lake while anglers were setting up. Spirits were high – so high, in fact, that one angler decided to pop off to the pub for a cheeky pint before the all-in was called! Dedication? Questionable. Hydration? Absolutely.

As is often the way, once the hooter sounded and the match got underway, the fish decided to pull a vanishing act. The early signs quickly faded, and the lake switched to a game of patience and fine margins.

Despite tricky conditions, a few managed to find feeding fish and made it count:

🥇 1st – Jack Jones
Back on form in style, Jack put together a tidy net to take top honours. The man’s timing is spot on – saving the performance until it really matters!

🥈 2nd – Jonny Richards
Another solid result for Jonny, who’s been knocking on the door for a win and isn’t far off.

🥉 3rd – Dan Howes
Dan rounds out the podium with a well-earned third. A bit more luck and he could’ve pushed even higher.

🎯 Section Winners:

  • Acko – still finding edges where no one else sees them.

  • Rob Urry – consistent as ever.

  • Mike Edwards – solid weights and steady hands.

  • Quill – proving again that quiet tactics sometimes shout the loudest.
