What was expected to be a tricky day with low weights turned into anything but, as Hackworth Lake decided to properly switch on! With 18 anglers lining the banks and the weather starting off cool and cloudy, expectations were modest – but just before the all-in, the sun made a surprise appearance… and so did some seriously questionable sunburn… one lad now looks like he’s wearing ghost socks. Suncream next time, lads!
🏆 Top 3 Finishers:
🥇 1st – Rob Wood
Rob made it two in a row and didn’t just win – he absolutely stormed it with 267lb 14oz, finishing over 100lb clear of second place! He’s clearly on a roll, and at this point, might need to start giving lessons.
🥈 2nd – Jack Jones
Jack moaned all the way to his corner peg – something about “never drawing anything decent.” Turns out his peg was full of fish, because he ended up with 166lb 01oz and even managed to net two fish at once at one point! Moan less, catch more?
🥉 3rd – John Hopton
JJohn was pegged opposite Rob and spent most of the match squinting across the lake trying to copy his techniques. Whatever he was doing, it worked well enough for third place – solid effort!
🎯 Section Winners:
-
Dan Howes – 104lb 09oz
A tidy performance and a well-earned section win. -
Gaz Wood – 108lb 07oz
A strong performance from Gaz, cruising to victory in his section. -
Barry Simpson – 75lb 04oz
Took the section win by default. No “double-double” today Barry
After the all-out, it was time for poles down and pints up – everyone headed to the onsite pub for a cold drink, some cracking scran, and the all-important sunburn show-and-tell. Highlights included a farmer’s tan that could be seen from orbit and one mystery angler who now has goggle marks that make him look permanently surprised.
