22 hopeful anglers made the journey to Redwood Lake at Redwood Park near York this weekend, only to be met with a tough day’s fishing. Despite the picturesque setting and promising overcast skies with a gentle breeze, bites were few and far between for most – with 7 DNWs recorded and many struggling to tempt even a twitch on the float.
The carp were clearly more interested in each other than our bait, showing all the signs of getting ready to spawn, while the F1s seemed to have formed a tight social club somewhere far away from most pegs!
Still, there were a few stand-out performances:
🥇 1st – John Hopton – 78lb 10oz
A cracking effort from John, making the most of what was on offer and finding some feeding fish when many couldn’t.
🥈 2nd – Rob W – 57lb 1oz
The so-called “venue expert” strikes again! Though we’re still unsure if he knows the lake or just has an exclusive deal with the fish.
🥉 3rd – Gaz Wood – 56lb 5oz
Another solid performance from Gaz, just missing out on second but keeping consistent form.
🏅 4th – Rob McConnell – 52lb 10oz
An impressive weight in tough conditions to round off the top four.

🎣 Quill (by default, but still counts)
🎣 Jonny Richards
🎣 Anders
And let’s not forget poor Nicola, who claimed she was “absolutely freezing” despite it being mild enough for most to be in hoodies. Rumour has it she’s still defrosting somewhere near peg 9…
